Shana Galen starts her Jewels of the Ton series off with a bang! WHEN YOU GIVE A DUKE A DIAMOND is a wonderful historical romance!

William, Duke of Pelham, lives his life on a schedule, maintains a spotless reputation and treasures a life based on order. Which is why a nightmare of epic proportions falls on his shoulders when his name is connected to Juliette, a famous courtesan known as the ‘Duchess of Dalliance.' Such a thing will not do, especially since he is engaged to be married to the most respectable Lady Elizabeth. Now that Juliette is in his life, William seems to find chaos at every corner, which destroys the order he has become accustomed to. Yet he quickly realizes having a little chaos and Juliette in his life may be exactly what he needs.

What a fabulous novel! WHEN YOU GIVE A DUKE A DIAMOND has so much to love, but it's the characters that truly shine. I loved Juliette, the Duchess of Dalliance! She was an absolute breath of fresh air when it came to historical heroines. She was spunky, fully of life and never one to hold back her words. There was certainly more to her than just her reputation. You could always discover something new about her personality that would draw you in. She has a down-to-earth sensibility and brutal honesty that make her so admirable that you just can't get enough. When you have a structured hero like William, there is only a certain type of woman that can break through all his emotional walls and Juliette was the absolute perfect match. She was everything William was not and that is what made her so appealing.

William is certainly a little rough around the edges. I must admit I was a little worried about him! He was rigid, stubborn and sometimes arrogant. Not to mention the fact that he was unintentionally cruel at was definitely shocking and disappointing at first. I was desperately hoping Juliette would be the woman to break through and bring out the true William. It takes a few chapters, but finally you do get to see a different side of William as he tries his best to find himself and to not be the Duke everyone wants him to be. Once he finally allows himself to experience life and emotions, his characters completely changes...for the better. Then he easily turns into one of the most captivating heroes you will ever read about.

In this novel, Ms Galen makes her characters work for their happily ever after. An overall theme of the novel certainly embraces the phrase ‘more than meets the eye.' Both Juliette and William have a reputation among the ton, but WHEN YOU GIVE A DUKE A DIAMOND is about learning what is beyond the truth of those expectations. I thoroughly enjoyed the fact that the first impressions of the characters were blown apart in the end. It made the journey through the novel much more rewarding and satisfying to read. Ms Galen also has fabulous secondary characters and creates a trio of ‘Diamonds' that you will come to love. This first novel in the Jewels of the Ton series easily proves these three courtesans are going to provide plenty of adventure and entertainment in upcoming novels.

Ms Galen can do no wrong when it comes to historical romance! Her writing draws you in and lets you fall in love with her exciting and passionate characters. The well-drawn protagonists pack plenty of emotion as you follow their interesting journey that makes you cry in one instant, laugh in the next and cheer for their happily ever after. The development of their romance is truly a treat not only because of the scorching passion they share, but because of the inspiring characters you learn to understand as different layers are exposed.

WHEN YOU GIVE A DUKE A DIAMOND also has plenty of thrills and a mystery to go along with the romance to make this an excellent story that is sure to please historical romance fans. Shana Galen has proven she can gives readers everything they desire and then some! It's delivered with a masterful eloquence that keeps you turning one page to next and makes you terribly disappointed when it's over. So don't miss this latest winner from Shana Galen! She proves that great stories, like diamonds, are forever.
