really liked it

Light & Dark: The Awakening of the Mageknight (Light & Dark, #1) by Daniel M. Fife is a fantasy story about a card game called Knights that turns out to be actually based on reality. Danny Firoth and his friends are beginning eighth-grade.

What happens when the new girl, Sabrina, turns out to be half dragon? They all decide they want to go to summer training to become Knights of the Light and battle Shadows after gifted with the sight. While attending White Rock Academy Danny and his friends encounter knights, elves, and all sorts of magical things.

And there's a traitor among them. One will betray the Light and join the Dark. Can the new squires battle such a force?

I really like the story. It's full of magical weapons and beings. I like the age and personality of each character. They all have their little quirks. The pace was well paced yet the book was quite detailed.

It's nicely balanced. A blend of Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter. It's a fantasy any fan would love.
