really liked it

The story is a series of vignettes following the main character's trajectory from childhood to death. She is a sensualist and is immersed in the sensations of the moment. It crystallises the experience of her everyday life. I particularly liked the first part of the book as it captured a New Zealand childhood. By the end I was a bit sick of Dorothy's lack of judgement and immersion in the moment, but I guess that was the point. An ambitious family saga, brilliantly executed.
