I have never read this author before and this book was recommended by a friend who felt that it was helpful to him personally. From the reviews, I read that this book has been cathartic for many people who have realized that they have a big disconnect between their private self and the image which they portray publicly.
At first, I thought it was fairly well-written and the author was developing the characters. BUT, when the main character had his moral, spiritual, emotional, psychological, physical melt down then she sped along in a choppy style. She sensationalized the role of spiritual director to the point that he was clairavoyant and superhuman. The author was clearly informed enough to have done a better job with real relationships but it seems that she chose to write a popular and titillating "beach read" instead. I guess I didn't understand the genre but I ended up feeling that I had wasted my time reading a thick, trashy book written by a person who knows better.

Don Paul I have read the whole series. Of the series, I liked the first one the least. However, she does continue to give more space to Christian mysticism than most modern Christians do.
