it was ok
bookshelves: meh, young-adult, reviewed, bland

Sara Zarr has this particular style of writing that, quite frankly, doesn't suit me. I do really appreciate her books, as they are unique in plot and characters, but I have never been able to really connect with her books.

"Once was Lost" was okay. It didn't grab my attention or make me feel like it had an impact on me whatsoever. The main character was not somebody I could relate to, at all. Sam had an okay personality, but I found her too boring, narration wise.

The ending disappointed me. It felt too cut off, almost like the author just wanted to rush the end.

I can see why this book appeals to many readers, with its important subjects and well-developed characters, but it simply did not do so for me. To say the least, this book was a disappointment, and I am now contemplating whether or not I should read Mrs. Zarr's other books.
