really liked it

I enjoyed this book, enjoyed the wandering structure and the loose ties between "events"--not that there were a lot of real events. Most of the brief stories and observations led to some interesting explorations of ideas, and in fact I wish the author had done more with these ideas. Much of the time they felt like they were sort of skimming along the surface of some pretty deep issues. The ending was startling, and at first I was very disappointed in it, but the book has remained on my mind for the last few days since I officially finished it, and I rather like the way the events revealed toward the ending have allowed me to reexamine my interpretation of Julius and his outlook on the world. There's a lot of subtlety in the story, and I think I'd like to read it again some time.
