This book, along w/Zen and the art of Motorcycle Maintenance, have been so important to my life and the way I live it. The two of them helped crystallize my thinking about Quality vs Quantity (the latter represented by the "bean-counters" we all encounter everyday, like I do in education). This one helps describe the watershed moment when Socrates' dictatorial ways became the accepted philosophy.

Doug Matthews The books in my top group include: Zen & the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, the Trial of Socrates, the Ursula K LeGuin's The Dispossessed, Handmaid's Tale & Samuel Beckett's plays, esp Godot (& I'd maybe throw Rosencrantz & Guildenstern in there too)
