After a particularly troubled year at school, Lex’s parents send her off to spend the summer working on her reclusive Uncle Mort’s farm. When she arrives, she learns that Uncle Mort is not a farmer, but part of a fantastical world between the living and the dead. Uncle Mort is a grim reaper, transporting souls from their human bodies to the afterlife. And he wants to train Lex to join him.
Traveling through the space-time continuum, is a rush. And Lex is a prodigy, picking up the skill quickly. But Lex wants justice. Often she collects the soul of a murder victim and feet away from the murderer she fights the rage inside her. The reapers have to follow orders, and only do their job when someone actually dies. The consequences for reaping without orders are severe.
When there are strange deaths and unsolicited reapings it is not the authorities, but inexperienced Lex and her partner Diggs who take risks to discover who is responsible.
