At first, this book was exactly what I expected. A young Irish gal dealing with man troubles. I read Keyes' book Sushi for Beginners because it had an interesting title. I liked that book because most of the main characters were Irish and I get a kick out of trans-atlantic chick-lit.

Angels, however, began to derail for me when the main character flew to LA to visit a friend and then remained stateside for the rest of the book.

Later on, the storyline really kicked below the belt. I was about 9 weeks pregnant when I read Angels. The main character kept mentioning "setbacks" in her marriage. A setback is a lost job, a housing deal that fell through, a case of mono, etc.

No, her "setbacks" were miscarriages. One at 9 weeks and one at 11 weeks.

Anybody who's ever read what book reviews call a "beach read" know they don't involve miscarriages. Look at that book cover and tell me Angels wasn't marketed as a beach read.

Anyway, the story was fine. Just not what I needed at the time.
