it was amazing
bookshelves: historical-fiction
Read from August 07 to 20, 2012

Wow! I didn't anything about the history of Wales. This novel fictionalizes the history of one of the greatest princes of 13th C. Welsh history. Prince Llewellyn, in a politically expedient move, marries the illegitimate daughter of King John (brother of Richard the Lionheart). It becomes one of the true love matches of royal history, and she is torn between her love for her father and her husband as John and Llewellyn fight for the rule Wales. In the span of 30 years, there is a soap opera load of political intrigue, war, family in-fighting, adultery and lust. If you can keep the large cast of characters straight, and get beyond the celtic spelling of names and places -- it's a page turner!
