This book was quite fascinating. I think it may have been the beginning of Wikipedia/Open Source. It describes how volunteers were used to submit examples of words they found in specific texts, in specific time periods to adequately explain the meaning of specific words. It also describes the poignant relationship between two men whose ultimate goal was the publication of the Oxford English Dictionary.
