really liked it
bookshelves: 2012, classics

An interesting perspective on America's journey through Prohibition, the Spanish Influenza, and WWI, seeing as how it was written directly after the latter two events took place. Willa Cather is like comfort food and this one was no different, even if I didn't identify with the characters quite as much as in some of her other books.

Willa Cather
“Life was so short that it meant nothing at all unless it were continually reinforced by something that endured; unless the shadows of individual existence came and went against a background that held together.”
