I do enjoy British crime novels and this one was no exception, except that it was too long. I have no problem with long books, if they keep the story moving. I really don't need a street by street description of the sights on offer as the hero drives round Brighton. If I feel the need to explore I'll hire a tour guide. Seriously though, it was as though the author was trying to prove his knowledge of his home town but only succeeded in slowing the story down.

The plot was clever, with lots of twists and turns along the way, but I was distracted by repetitions. I got it the first time when I was told the days were getting shorter. Same thing with the length of time someone could be kept in custody, which I was told at least three times.

Shorter, with less peripheral facts and and it would have been a better read.
