I think this book was trying to do two different things well, and so ended up accomplishing neither.

There is science in this book—the science of love and how/why it works. These science bits alternate between being too detailed and technical for the average person to care about, and too simplistic for scientifically minded people to care about.

There is also poetry in this book, attempting, I think, to make it not-so-sciencey. Unfortuntately, it comes off as love poetry chosen by scientists.
