really liked it
bookshelves: canadian-fiction, fiction, novel, read-in-2012

** spoiler alert ** An intriguing and complex novel by one of Canada's top young adult fiction authors. (This is her first novel for adults.) The main characters are all well developed. A few of the minor characters (particularly Ed's sister) don't seem real, however. My major issue with the large number of coincidences that drive the plot (yes, it ties all the plot points together beautifully in the end, but it seems just a little too coincidental). And then there's the matter of a publisher and an editor caring that much about a manuscript that was missing the contact information for its author. Would that actually happen in the real world? Not in the world of publishing I know.

I may be being a bit too generous with the stars, but the writing was excellent and the book was enjoyable. I can't give it less than four stars despite the aforementioned flaws.
