** spoiler alert ** This book was the sequel to Jerry Spinelli's "Stargirl." The first book was told in the point of view of Leo, a boy living in Arizona, when Stargirl arrives as a new student. In this book however, it is told in Stargirl's perspective. We find out that she moved to Pennsylvania, and that she decided to return to home schooling, after the events of her public school experience in Arizona. In this story, Stargirl encounters many interesting people. She meets 5 year old Dootsie, her neighbor, who becomes Stargirl's best friend from her wonderful childhood innocence. She also befriends her other neighbor, Betty Lou, who is afraid to leave her house. She also meets Charlie, an old man who spends all day in front of his wife's gravestone, rain or shine. There's Alvina, the sixth grader, who's temper gives her a bad rep in the town. And then there's Perry Delloplane. Although he steals, sleeps on the roof of his house and is the center of attention of quite a few girls, he manages to become Stargirl's new love interest. In this story, Stargirl's different ways seems less strange being we see things from her point of view. In the end, all the new people in Stargirl's life teach her that it is not important to stress about the future or past, and the best thing you can do for yourself is live in the moment.
