I really liked this autobiography of a Chinese boy who was plucked from his rural village and trained as a ballet dancer in Madame Mao's Dance Academy during the Cultural Revolution. He did a great job of helping the reader really feel the shock of going from the starving village to the dance academy, and then from the restricted life in China to the freedoms of America. It was inspiring to hear his story and how his life changed beyond anything he could have imagined. It was also interesting to read this right before the Olympics, it made me wonder what some of the Chinese athletes may have experienced. It was a great book for a book club discussion.
