Lavabearian (Jessica)'s Reviews > Personal Effects
** spoiler alert ** The voice for this is really rich and authentic. Readers will really feel for Matt having to live with not only the death of his mother who also ran out on him as a child, but also his older brother. As a military-minded man, his father is so rigid and unemotional that Matt will never measure up to T.J. When the footlockers of personal effects shows up and his dad refuses to acknowledge that they may contain one last memory for him to hold onto, Matt has no choice but to secretly go through them on his own. What he discovers gives him new direction and purpose. His reaction to who is brother really was felt real and personal. I think this will be a good fit for the "offbeat" boy who maybe reads, but not often unless someone hands him a book. A YES vote for me.
