it was ok

No real surprises here, but good writing and plot development with reasonably good characterization. Entertaining summer read for fantasy fans. I certainly enjoyed reading the book, though it was a bit slow to start.

While it was just 'okay' for me, that was because I never really got hooked into the main characters and I am a character-driven reader. Complex mommy/daughter relationships aren't something I can usually involve myself in and the daughter I found particularly difficult. Not an issue with the book or the author's writing, just a personal issue for me.
