really liked it
bookshelves: 2007, in-english, queer, mystery

This book is the first one in the Adrien English Mysteries and I must say that it's my favorite one. There are three books out in the series so far but I didn't read the first one until now because it was sold out.

What I liked most about this book was the relationship between Adrien and Jake. In the later books, Jake turns into a real bastard because he is so afraid of being outed as a gay. But here, it's obvious that he really cares for Adrien.

And I love Adrien, the main protagonist too. I would love to be like him. Although his life isn't all that peachy, he doesn't complain. He deals with his heart condition and with his loneliness and he doesn't allow them to break or depress him. I like it.

The case itself is quite intriguing too. Even though you catch on rather early who the culprit is, it's still interesting to wait and see what happens, how they catch him...

Oh, and I mustn't forget Lisa, Adrien's mother... I loved Jake's "I would like to see a serial killer take on your mother." XD She is hilarious in her own selfish way :D

I hope that Josh Lanyon writes another book in this series soon and that Jake will finally get over his phobia and give Adrien what he deserves.
