The ladies of the garden club face another challenge when Miss Hamer's niece and her friend come to town. The niece is not what a quiet Southern town is used to, since Verna is able to identify her as a dancer from the scandalous Ziegfield Frolic. Fortunately, close-mouthed Verna doesn't share that information too freely, not even when she suspects that the stranger staying at the local hotel is really a gangster, with sinister plans. Meanwhile, Mrs. Bessie Bloodworth is forced to re-examine her relationships with the Hamers, and find out once and for all what happened to her blighted romance.
