RTF!
I read this back in January and expected it to be one of the books that helped me get back into my book blog. What I've come to learn is that I just don't have enough time in life for my hobbies, which is unfortunate because this book deserves all the space.
Thank you to Netgalley and HarperAudio for an advance copy of this book in audiobook proofs, in exchange for an honest review.
First off, happy book day! I had assumed this book was already out, but it is quite perfect that I am writing this on the day it is out in the world! If you are someone who loves Pride and Prejudice adaptations, I would suggest adding this one to your list. Elizabeth and Darcy work for competing law firms - neither of which are exactly lawyers (because Elizabeth can't be), but both are looking to solve the most recent murder for...well, different reasons. Darcy is looking to get his best friend off as there is no way Charles Bingley is a murderer, while Elizabeth is hoping that by solving the case, she can take up a more serious position in her father's law firm.
What I enjoyed about this book is that it doesn't feel like someone took a woman from the 2020s and dropped her into P&P time. Elizabeth feels like a product of her day, and the murder feels of the time as well. I also love when P&P adaptations keep my favorite line (which essentially boils down to "if you don't marry him your mother will never speak to you again and if you do, I won't ever speak to you again" because chef kiss Elizabeth's dad is the OG good dad.)
I look forward to continuing this series (especially looking forward to Northanger Abbey as I always am looking for more adaptations of it) and seeing what other mysteries pop up!
