When Violet turns seventeen, her world flips upside down. Because her mother died when she was born, Violet is special: her soul contains the essence of an angel. But there's more to it than that, and as Violet learns the truth of who she is, she has to come to grips with the fact that her mother did more than abandon her at birth: her mother trapped her in a struggle between light and dark forces. Violet can either embrace her angelic nature, or deny the core part of herself, but there's a catch: if she embraces, she has the power to save the first boy she's ever loved, but then she'll never be able to be with him. He's part-angel, too, which complicates things. And then there's Phoenix: an exiled angel who's taken an unusual interest in Violet. There are layers of lies surrounding her, and her only chance at survival is to cut through the fog and find the truth. But things are never as black and white as humans expect.

Fans of Cassandra Clare and Lani Taylor will gobble up this great series.
