really liked it

I love that my tiny hometown village (Peace Dale) in RI is transformed in this novel about race and policing in post-war Atlanta into the name of a rural Georgia town. It actually sounds like it should be (although, Hope Valley is also in RI, so I guess RIers pick quaint village names). I think I know where the author of this book lives based on all this. I am not sure what led me to download this on audible (might have been a promising daily deal), but I really enjoyed the way it explored the challenges faced by the first black officers in southern cities while also providing an interesting murder mystery as context. I had not ever heard of Thomas Mullen, but am intrigued to read more of his fiction, now that I have discovered him. I may wait a bit on the book about the 1918 pandemic, though.
