Gillian Flynn has become my recent go to author when I'm in the mood for a fast paced thriller. Her latest book, Gone Girl, is no exception. Nick and Amy have hit a rough patch in their five year marriage. Having both lost their writing jobs in high powered New York City, they reluctantly return to Nick's boy hood home in small town Ohio to open a bar and care for his ailing mother. When Amy disappears on their fifth wedding anniversary, Nick follows a scavenger hunt she left for him to try to find her abductor. Soon he is the primary suspect in the search for Amy. But as in all of Flynn's thrillers there is a catch. Just when you think you have the mystery figured out; Flynn throws you a curve ball that makes you head spin. This chilling portrait of a dysfunctional marriage will keep you on the edge of your seat.
