really liked it
bookshelves: 1970s, novel, addiction, alcohol, america, depression, family, masculinity, new-york, read-2012, sad

** spoiler alert ** I was expecting this to be a typical (but brilliant) Yates story about the futility of trying to change your life. Instead I got an alcoholic's descent into, and recovery from, (and descent into, and recovery from, etc.) madness. Yates makes me care about characters I loathe.
