it was amazing

I just finished ANGELMAKER, which had been sitting on my desk for months and which I picked up a few days ago and have been absolutely unable to put down since. The book is FANTASTIC. Why haven’t I heard more about it? Why hasn’t it been written up on BoingBoing? Has someone sent a copy to Cory Doctorow? It’s BRILLIANT! Yesterday it had me in an existential crisis (What am I doing with my life? Why aren’t I MAKING something?), today it’s got me grinning ear to ear, trying to explain to anyone who’ll listen about the doomsday device / clockwork beehive and the quiet craftsman hero who steps up to claim his father’s legacy as the lord of the London underworld in order to prevent the destruction of the universe. Oh, and did I mention the 90-year-old ex-spy who, in the company of her blind, one-toothed attack-pug, blows up half of London with homemade fertilizer bombs in between flashbacks of her thrilling, sexy she-spy past?

Go, read this now. You can borrow my copy.
