I'm such a sucker for Amy Tan books, that woman always manages to make me cry.

I remember one scene in the book that describes the return trip to China of the two sisters, one American born and one born in the town they are re-visiting. The description of the new development through each of their eyes stayed with me and when i was travelling in China I thought of it often. The new sprawl that looked like a pollution-causing blight on the landscape to me was most likely a beacon of prosperity and advancement to many of the people there.
