A mysterious man comes to a small town and causes havoc when he reveals he isn't all there (in more ways than one). H. G. Wells was ahead of his time. I imagine now he'd still be writing science fiction but along the lines of Phillip K. Dick or Arthur C. Clark. His ideas had a sort of realism that is missing from other works, especially at this time. The Invisible Man isn't the most interesting character (an area of weakness for Wells), but he is memorable and the science behind his transformation can be seen as plausible considering the low-tech world that Wells lived in.
