For those of my generation, it is jarring to read of the wartime heroism of George McGovern, yet it so clearly defined the man that he later became.

It is sad that so few B-24s remain today. I cannot imagine the feelings of the crew when the Dakota Queen - and all other such planes - were consigned to scrap after such honorable service. It makes me feel even more grateful that I got to see WWII planes fly at the Warbirds in Action 2008 in Shafter CA.
