This is an important book for those of us who don't understand the economics problems that face us today. Our elected leaders make faulty decisions on biased information with self-serving interests. Krugman explains how we got into this significant slump, how much it is like the Great Depression in the early twenties, was totally foreseeable and avoidable, and what real actions can change our course.

Krugman's prescriptions for economic recovery are straightforward and sensible including more direct public infrastructure spending, aid to states or countries in the case of Europe, accommodating monetary policy including a temporarily higher inflation target, better trade agreements and increased environmental policies.

The only problem with the book is Krugman's dismissive tone with his critics. It gives people an unnecessary excuse not to listen.
