liked it
bookshelves: caldecotts-for-slackers

1984 Caldecott Medal. This story was really interesting (we know about the Wright Brothers--but it's good to learn about others) and I really liked the don't-give-up attitude of the dad and the way he took his seemingly failures and thought of them as successes. The peek into life and styles and community at the turn of the century was fun. BUT, knowing that most readers in this market might stumble around French words, or totally butcher them, I think the author should have used a pronunciation guide. That would have made it so much more enjoyable to just read the story and not get tripped up by the words.
