Read from August 08 to 11, 2012

Live By Night follows the rise of a prohibition era gangster, from the streets of Boston to the speakeasies and swanky clubs of Tampa; his triumphs and setbacks, his great loves and deadly encounters. He is a notorious bad guy with a good heart, a loyal friend in a world where greed rules and trust is fleeting. I often found myself scanning through paragraph after paragraph and page after page of exposition to get to the meat of this story, but once it took off my persistence was rewarded. The action scenes were thrilling and usually surprising. A very good book at 400 pages, this might have been a real page-turner at 300. I won this book through a Goodreads contest.
