This is an interesting book. It took me a while to get the cadence of the author. I think that is mostly because of the era--a mystery set in Victorian England. But it gets interesting with the different characters, including Amir Ali, a man from India trying to escape his life there by professing to be part of the Thugee cult and having lived a life of crime.

It isn't like any other book I've read, largely because of the cultural representations put in the context of Victorian England.

Once my mind "synched" with Khair's cadence, it became a relatively quick and enjoyable read.
