I liked this one so much better than the Swan Kingdom, I'm really glad I gave the author another try. One thing I disliked (on my copy at least) is the girl on the cover is not scarred as the character is supposed to be. It doesn't sound like a big deal, but I am so sick of beautiful insipid models staring at me blankly from the cover of every singe YA book. It must be stopped. Although this is described as having a romantic element to it, I really didn't feel it. They married out of convenience to have a stronger claim to the throne, and after that there were only fleeting interactions between them. I actually preferred this, it made a lot more sense than most relationships in fantasy novels. Anywho, it was fun as long as you don't think about it too hard while reading it, you'll just ruin it.
