While sometimes I found the female characters to be somewhat droll and uninteresting, when I reminded myself that this was the 30's that reeled me back in to what this story is really all about - friendships between women. There are no other friendships/relationships with the power of women committed to their friends.

Linda The Persian Pickle Club has always been one of my favorites. It's a good book discussion choice as well.

Corky Jeanne was here looking at my bookshelves and she suggested that we read a book a month that came from DPPL that neither of us had read yet. I remember how much you liked this book. I enjoyed her book that had Tulip in the title - the whol of which escapes me at the moment!
