liked it
bookshelves: fantasy, short-stories

Loved the first half of the book, but I had a hard time getting in to most of the second half. That might just be me, though. I have a hard time with short story anthologies.

The standout pieces for me were A Study in Emerald (a cross between Sherlock Holmes and Lovecraft), The Fairy Reel (a cool short poem), The Monarch of the Glen (an American Gods/Beowulf novella), and Other People (which, I think, now ranks up there as one of my favourite short stories).

I like that he introduces each piece with a description on how it came to be. That helps appreciate it a little more, I think.

With 32 pieces in this book, you get your money's worth at least.
