really liked it

It was a bit difficult to get into this book. I even put it down about 50 pages in to read a couple of different books. The plot starts off quite slowly and it takes a while to get into the prevailing mood of the book. However, having got to the end, I can't say all the building done in the first 1/4 wasn't necessary, so really that is more a suggestion that a complaint. If it seems a bit slow at first, stick with it. This book was thoughtful and atmospheric, but unlike a lot of thoughtful, atmospheric books it also has an (eventually) gripping and engaging plot. It takes you both through a gripping heroic tale and deep into the human heart. It's a very dark sort of story and quite sad at points, but with an overall very positive and wise conclusion.
