really liked it
bookshelves: contemporary, sci-fi

Not my favorite of the series but enjoyable nonetheless
Rating by category:
Writing--no roadblocks. Nothing bothered me enough to make note of it. Nothing memorable to make note of either. Competent.--a 3.

Plot/characters: I thought the story slow going at the beginning, but I like this Harry who stops to think, rather than running in shooting fire at the drop of a hat. I liked the backstory & I think Harry got some depth but more so than he, the supporting cast got a huge boost--Molly, fairy godmother, Butters, Bob, & Morty, especially. The plot seemed secondary to me. I enjoyed it, but there were no real surprises & plot seemed secondary to character, which is not usually how Butcher comes across. A 4.

Profundity: well, no big life truths there really, and yet-- Harry learns his soul is his own and inviolable. Because he is buffeted by so many major entities, this is a lesson he needed to learn to rebalance his personal ethical/moral scales. A 3 probably.

Overall--this is about a 3.5 for me.
