Rae Carson is back with a solid follow up to The Girl of Fire and Thorns. Picking up right where she left us, 17 year old Elisa is now ruling as queen, holding onto her unstable country as she tries to better understand her power and purpose. Of course, epic quest and romantic adventure abound.

I enjoyed The Crown of Ember, though not quite as much as the first book in the series. The story is solid and the character development continues to be impressive, however the pacing lagged, especially in the beginning, and the conclusion definitely has the classic issue of being a middle book of a trilogy. That said, I still think that this was a fun and worthwhile read, though not quite as exciting as its predecessor.
