Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Harry Potter, #1)
As fine a summer read as anyone could wish for. I read it concurrently with Saul Bellow's novel "Augie March". Does Rowling's novel match Bellow's in language or insight into the human condition? Of course not. It's a kids book. Entertaining, light, and fun to read. "Harry Potter" seems to have a reputation as a book that one either loves or hates; I just found it to be a reminder how pleasing a simple story can be.
