I read this book out of some level of my own magical thinking. Having known several friends whose husband's have died suddenly from heart attacks, I thought I might be able to gain some sort of "knowledge and insight" in order to be better prepared for something like the sudden death of a loved one. What I did take away from this book was to make the relationships in my life count for something; to not take anyone or anything for granted. Too much of our daily lives and interactions are spent on auto-pilot, just going through the motions. That's when, in the face of a death, the regrets come flooding in and it's too late for the "wake up call". So, I guess it is a matter of choosing how to live rather than being prepared to face a loved one's death.
