The Book of Deacon (The Book of Deacon, #1)
Jul 13, 2012
Magic, war, dragons, a strong female protagonist...I loved this book. I was especially fond of Myn, a dragon with domestic dog-like characteristics that Myranda, our protagonist, adopts. In a war-torn world, Myranda seems to be the only one with any morals, wanting nothing more than to end the war. Shunned for her beliefs, she sets off to do just that, enduring incredible hardships. In her travels, she stumbles upon a fallen soldier and a special sword, marking her destiny. Hunted, she is led by a mysterious malthrope (part fox, part human) to a secret paradise closed off from the rest of her world, where the most powerful sorcerers and sorceresses have gathered. There, she begins her training. As I've said, I loved this book, but just when it starts to get to the part you've been waiting for, it abruptly ends. This is the first book in a trilogy and leaves you with a tremendous cliffhanger. I don't know when I will get around to reading the second book, but I definitely plan on seeing this one to the end.
