really liked it
bookshelves: apocafic, sciencefiction, read-in-12

I don't always read short story collections but when I do, they're about gruesome apocalypse scenarios. Really. I do love a good apocalypse scenario, and twenty-two apocalypse scenarios in one volume seemed like too good a deal to pass up.

This is a really good collection. Not all of them were to my taste. Orson Scott Card felt the need to write out his Mormonism, and I can't tell you how much I don't care. The last story, "Episode Seven" by John Langan, was such a mix of style and two page long run on sentences that I could bring myself to read the whole thing. But there were some awesome stories in here. Cory Doctorow's "When Sysadmins Ruled the Earth," was funny AND sad, however that works. Jack McDevitt's story about two people meeting an old recording was really poignant and sweet.

So many good things in here.
