did not like it
bookshelves: geek, scifi, speculative, tie-in, could-not-finish

I was excited to try a media tie-in for one of my favorite shows of all time and even more excited that it was free on Audible, but I couldn't get past the first chapter. It sounds like the first novel of someone who hasn't read much action adventure scifi, and that's pretty harsh coming from me, because that's not my first choice of genre either. Still, Lovegrove got it all wrong. Excessive passive voice? Wordy exposition? Unnecessary, lengthy descriptions? This is 101 stuff. As another reviewer said, these novice prose mistakes slow the pace considerably, which is the opposite of how this genre is supposed to feel. Years ago I would've tried to forgive it and finish the book, maybe give it 2 or 3 stars for the things it got right like characterization and plot, but I have less and less patience for poorly edited fiction the older I get.
