Loved this book! I'm firmly convinced that Seanan McGuire is a go-to urban fantasy writer who always delivers. Her October Daye series just gets better with every book. If this series launch is just the start, I can't wait to see where she takes these characters. There are so many intriguing teases about new fantasy creatures to discover, ghosts, strange family relations, even parallel dimensions. Talk about an interesting playground for a fantasy writer!

Premise: Verity Price is a cryptozoologist - she looks out for the interests of the non-human creatures of the world, both sentient and animal, keeping the balance between them and humankind. It's the family business her great-grandparents set up after they defected from the Covenant, which just wants to wipe out all non-humans. Verity is working in NYC, pursuing her dream of ballroom dancing on the side, when things get weird. A sexy Covenant man (Dominic De Luca) is sent to NYC to evaluate the need for a non-human purge, which doesn't go over well with Verity. Meanwhile, female non-humans are disappearing without a trace. Solving the mystery takes lots of twists and turns, including a detour to Verity's bedroom.
