This book is actually more like a collection of short stories rather than a complete novel, even though the two main character, Mr Quin and Mr Satterthwaite, provide a nice continuity between all the various mysteries. As with all of Christie's short story collection this book has it highlights - The Coming of Mr Quin, The Shadow on the Glass and The Dead Harlequin - and the not so impressive lowlights - The Face of Helen and The Soul of the Croupier. The strangest point for me within this entire collection was the story that it ended with, Harlequin's Lane, which I found curiously unsatisfactory as the concluding story, but the rest of the collection kept me happy enough that it didn't curtail my enjoyment of the rest of the novel.
