really liked it

Book number 6 in the Elvis Cole series by Robert Crais. Cole is hired by a successful local lawyer to help with the investigation into a murder in which a famous chef is charged with killing his wife. Elvis finds the clue that might clear the accused chef, but then he uncovers more information that causes him to question if he is even on the right team. To complicate things for Elvis, his girlfriend is visiting from Louisiana and, although the visit started great, things have cooled - Elvis is confused and worried.

By the time the case is resolved, Elvis resigns from the Attorney's team, and starts a serious investigation into what really happened. He solves the case, but the results are unsatisfying or worse. On the other hand, his relationship is starting to look up again.

Having read the preceding books makes understanding Elvis and his partner (Joe Pike) easier, and introduces you to all the other major characters in the story, including his current girlfriend, but even if this is the first book in the series you read, you will have no trouble following the story, and will want to read all the rest of the series.
