Coretta Scott King Award. Originally published in 1923 for grades PK-8. Themes include poetry, African American people, and children's literature. This poem tells the glory and beauty of being a Black American. The photographs are outstanding. Teachers could have students write their own short poem and draw pictures of their culture, religion or something that is special about them.
