I considered this book to be too "intelligent" for me. This one was just too much work - and it never grabbed me and made me want to not put it down. One of the reasons may have been that there were 68 chapters in this book, plus an epilogue. I never had to say - Oh, just one more chapter. Each was only about two or three pages long!

Kieran and Sophia had an interesting backstory. While Kier was working for Sophia's father, the two fell in love. Kier even asked to be able to marry Sophia. But Sophia's father was involved in some very shady business deals and he did not want her married to the lowest man on his totem pole. He had bigger plans for Sophia. He tried to get Kier killed and told Sophia that Kier left without a backward glance.
